The Smith River Project protects the biological diversity and overall health of California's wildest river and its human residents. Located in the northwestern part of the state, the Smith River is home to many rare plants and animals, including the state's healthiest Salmon fisheries, magnificent ancient forests and the highest concentration of endemic plants in North America.

What threatens the river's health?

Our Estuary Enhancement Program is working to reduce the impact of pollution from lily bulb production on human and wildlife communities that depend on the Smith for clean water.

Get involved and help save the Smith River today. Join our volunteers, and a strong coalition of local residents, scientists, fishers, outdoor enthusiasts and environmental organizations.

You can help make a difference...

photo of Ancient Forests along the banks of the Smith River Our Inholding Enhancement Program has rescued valuable pockets of ancient forest surrounded by the Smith River National Recreation Area. But 35,000 acres of inholdings remain unprotected.

You can help us protect these lands by making a donation today.
