MONDAY January 17

Trevor Garrod (of tea leaf green)

Mokai (duo with Seth ford Young on upright bass)

Keyboardist Trevor Garrod of Tea Leaf Green joins Acoustic Guitarist Mokai to kick off 2005 season of CC’s Acoustic Underground Showcase with Great Songs, Beautiful Voices, and Extended Jams

On Monday, January 17th, at 8 PM CC’s Acoustic Underground Showcase (CAUSE) starts off 2005 featuring a solo performance by the keyboardist of popular local jam band, Tea Leaf Green. Jam music lovers are already familiar with of Trevor, known as Professor T, and his “spine-tingling” keys. Of his voice, JEFF GRAY, of Nude as News, says: “…smooth and inviting …, one that's effective softly telling a story but can just as easily slip into a bluesy desperation.”

Los Angeles funk soul blues artist Kevin Sandbloom will be opening the show. Currently receiving airplay on KCRW and KPFK, Kevin’s sound has been described as “Maktub meets Dave Matthews at Jack Johnson’s house.”

This month Mokai, our resident acoustic blues master, will once again be accompanied by Seth Ford Young on upright bass. Mokai presents a different set every month, but it’s always got his signature smokin’ guitar and songs that move you. KFOG’s Rosalie Howarth says “Great message in a vivid, deftly expressed package…incredible live!"

The event will benefit the East Timor ACTION Network to provide relief to children and other survivors of the tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia. Please make generous donations. Purchase a block of tickets in advance to help us help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

CC is a local music promoter who started the series to bring together fans of acoustic music and community organizations. For nearly a full year, CAUSE has been raising money for important causes while presenting quality acoustic music. Along with Sunset Promotions and the Elbo Room, CC features solo acoustic artists, acoustic bands, acapella, didgeridoo, and percussion artists on the third Monday of the month. Each month at CC's Showcase, more and more people come out to enjoy some of the Bay Area's most-loved acoustic artists, including Etienne de Rocher, Loretta Lynch, Garrin Benfield, Erika Luckett, Shelley Doty, Austin Willacy, Mokai, David Jacobs-Strain, Teja Gerken, Copper Wimmin, David Hopkins, and Rachel Garlin. Each event showcases different artists and a different cause, from expanding voter participation to protection of the environment, workers rights, and support organizations that serve the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities.

THANK YOU to our SPONSOR EMB Studios. They are giving away 4 hours of studio recording time every month at CAUSE!

Each month, the audience votes on the artist to receive the studio time. So come on out and vote your favorite artist! (we count EVERY vote).

Congratulations Loretta Lynch who won the drawing for October, and Storyhill who won September's drawing.

If you want to perform at CC's Acoustic Underground Showcase the best thing you can do is support this event!

I am working to build a community of musicians and music lovers who gather once a month to celebrate the underground scene and the causes we care about. If you have submitted a CD and have not heard back, come to the next showcase and bring some friends. I am building each night as a theme around a specific cause, but I will be giving preference to those artists who become part of the scene by showing up each month and bring new people to the event.

If you have not yet done so, come to the next showcase, bring a copy of a CD that demonstrates the set you want to perform, bring a copy of your gig schedule, and bring some people to the showcase. I am working with each artist who performs as partners, so if chosen to perform, I expect each artist to devise their own strategies for getting their crowd to turn out.

A note to performers...I am especially looking for duos, acoustic bands, percussion, world-music influence, exciting and interesting eclectic instruments. The showcase is designed to bring acoustic music to the broader audience of fans of funk, jazz, world music and blues. I have limited slots for solo acoustic singer/songwriters, so if that describes you, consider putting together a duo or getting someone to back you up for this showcase and you will have a greater chance of getting booked.
