MONDAY March 21

Shelley Doty x-tet (acoustic)
Kid Beyond
Mokai
Jason Miller (CD release)
Mia and Jonah

March marks the one-year anniversary of CC’s Acoustic Underground Showcase (CAUSE) at the Elbo Room in SF, and CC has invited some of the area’s most-loved underground artists to celebrate. The event raises money for important causes while presenting an eclectic mix of acoustic music on the third Monday of each month. In honor of the international day of protest against the continued occupation of Iraq on the second anniversary of the U.S. invasion, all proceeds will benefit the United for Peace and Justice Bay Area organization.

Shelley Doty was part of one of the first shows there last year, and she returns to the series with her band, she calls her “X-tet”. The SF Chronicle recently noted that while the lineup of this band may change from show to show, the performance is always “tight, energetic and dynamic.” (SF Chron 1/28/05).

Also performing will be Kid Beyond, aka Andrew Chaikin, is a vocalist, throat singer and beatboxer, who won the “Best Beatboxer” category in the SF Weekly’s, Best of SF 2004.

The eclectic acoustic blues man that the “Godmother of Rock” Nadine Condon calls “a troubadour for the 21st century,” Mokai, performs each month at CAUSE, offering new songs and a unique performance each time, anchored by his daring guitar work and bold poetic lyrics.

Jason Miller is a songwriter who used to play in the popular mid-west jam band Citrus, will be celebrating the release of his latest solo CD, 114 Echo Ave, which was produced by East Bay guitarist Myles Boisen, of Tom Waits fame.

Boisen just produced the debut release of a duo that is returning to the CAUSE, Mia and Jonah, whose love is so contagious and it comes through in their music.

Background

CC is a local music promoter who started the series to bring together fans of acoustic music and community organizations. For nearly a full year, CAUSE has been raising money for important causes while presenting quality acoustic music. Along with Sunset Promotions and the Elbo Room, CC features solo acoustic artists, acoustic bands, acapella, didgeridoo, and percussion artists on the third Monday of the month. Each month at CC's Showcase, more and more people come out to enjoy some of the Bay Area's most-loved acoustic artists, including Trevor Garrod of Tea Leaf Green, Etienne de Rocher, Loretta Lynch, Garrin Benfield, Erika Luckett, Shelley Doty, Austin Willacy, Mokai, David Jacobs-Strain, Teja Gerken, Copper Wimmin, David Hopkins, and Rachel Garlin. Touring artists that have been featured include John Ellis of the Charlie Hunter Trio, Story Hill Kevin Sandbloom and Joe Rohan. Each event showcases different artists and a different cause, from expanding voter participation to protection of the environment, workers rights, and support organizations that serve the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities, and more.

THANK YOU to our SPONSOR EMB Studios. They are giving away 4 hours of studio recording time every month at CAUSE!

Each month, the audience votes on the artist to receive the studio time. So come on out and vote your favorite artist! (we count EVERY vote).

Congratulations Trevor Garrod Loretta Lynch, and Storyhill who won the drawings thus far.

If you want to perform at CC's Acoustic Underground Showcase the best thing you can do is support this event!

I am working to build a community of musicians and music lovers who gather once a month to celebrate the underground scene and the causes we care about. If you have submitted a CD and have not heard back, come to the next showcase and bring some friends. I am building each night as a theme around a specific cause, but I will be giving preference to those artists who become part of the scene by showing up each month and bring new people to the event.

If you have not yet done so, come to the next showcase, bring a copy of a CD that demonstrates the set you want to perform, bring a copy of your gig schedule, and bring some people to the showcase. I am working with each artist who performs as partners, so if chosen to perform, I expect each artist to devise their own strategies for getting their crowd to turn out.

A note to performers...I am especially looking for duos, acoustic bands, percussion, world-music influence, exciting and interesting eclectic instruments. The showcase is designed to bring acoustic music to the broader audience of fans of funk, jazz, world music and blues. I have limited slots for solo acoustic singer/songwriters, so if that describes you, consider putting together a duo or getting someone to back you up for this showcase and you will have a greater chance of getting booked.

Follow up within 2 weeks of giving me the info about your music
