Garrin & Mokai jamming at CAUSE for Pride 2004
This month we present musicians who are "Proud as Folk" to live in
San Francisco as we celebrate Pride
2005. Last year's pride show was our most packed event all year so
you may want to arrive early. All proceeds this month go to the Haight
Ashbury Free Medical Clinic, a place where many in the community
find an island of support in an ocean of neglect created by health
insurance costs spiraling out of control.
Eric Cornforth will start out the night, so if you get there early,
you will be treated to "San Francisco's favorite teenage rock star."
After his set, Joshua Zucker will take his post as the upright bass
player for the night, backing up Kenni, Mokai, and Garrin Benfield.
Joshua has a sweet sound and knows how to groove with the vibe of each
song. He's also currently playing with well-known acts like the Rowan
Brothers, David Gans, and emerging artist Corrine West.
Kenni came to the Bay Area from the New England folk circuit. She plays
Contemporary Folk/Americana with thoughtful lyrics, interesting grooves,
and rich vocal
harmonies. Kenni's clear, sweet mezzo-soprano voice is complemented by
her driving guitar.
Mokai is our resident acoustic blues master. His earthy acoustic folk-blues
sound is the perfect medium for deeply felt songs crafted with a wild
imagination and a dry wit. He's been performing solo for the last few
shows so come get an earful of the duo with Joshua Zucker on upright
bass.
Garrin Benfield has been a strong supporter of CAUSE since the very
beginning, dropping in to watch many of the shows over the last year,
so we invited him back to play again. Benfield's
shows center on his quirky pop melodies but are stretched into new
territory each night. Familiar songs are often twisted and contorted
into gorgeous new creations that leave audiences breathless. Garrin
will be joined by Joshua Zucker on bass, and plans to play a
tune or two with Mokai before the night is over.
Monday, June 20. Doors open at 8:00 PM, with an 8:30 show at the Elbo
Room, 647 Valencia St., SF 94110. Tickets are on sale at www.SunsetTickets.com for a sliding scale $5 - $20 donation in advance and at the door.

I
am working to build a community of musicians and music lovers who gather
once a month to celebrate the underground scene and the causes we care
about. If you have submitted a CD and have not heard back, come to the
next showcase and bring some friends. I am building each night as a theme
around a specific cause, but I will be giving preference to those artists
who become part of the scene by showing up each month and bring new people
to the event.
If you have not yet done so, come to the next showcase, bring a copy
of a CD that demonstrates the set you want to perform, bring a copy of
your gig schedule, and bring some people to the showcase. I am working
with each artist who performs as partners, so if chosen to perform, I
expect each artist to devise their own strategies for getting their crowd
to turn out.

A note to performers...I am especially looking for duos,
acoustic bands, percussion, world-music influence, exciting and interesting
eclectic instruments. The showcase is designed to bring acoustic music
to the broader audience of fans of funk, jazz, world music and blues.
I have limited slots for solo acoustic singer/songwriters, so if that
describes you, consider putting together a duo or getting someone to back
you up for this showcase and you will have a greater chance of getting
booked.
Follow up within 2 weeks of giving me the info about your music

thanks,
