SongSpell... the interactive improv songwriting game.

The May Showcase was awesome with Reba Hasko, Sam Johnston, Mary Elizabeth and Mario DeSio, MarQue and Mokai each playing amazing sets. The highlight of the evening was when they did their improv song together because they did something never done before: they really jammed it out, I mean really. The jam was so hot I wish we had recorded it. But I have not been recording the improv sessions so as to avoid putting that pressure on these poor musicians--it's already asking a lot for them to write a song collaboratively on the spot, but if they thought it would be recorded it would add pressure. Well, that just means you have to come hear these great moments live! So come on down!

April Showcase: It went really well and the house was full! Arin Simonian and Vanessa Lowe joined Mokai and surprise guest Mia Mustari with Jeremy Honig on drums for a great nite of acoustic music.

We played this game called SongSpell. What's that, you ask? SongSpell is an interactive improvisational songwriting game where audience members submit a word, phrase or paragraph on paper into a hat. I draw three of the suggestions at random and the songwriters compose and perform a song based on the ideas submitted.

In April, talented songwriters composed a juicy song titiled: "My pear-shaped booty" based on audience suggestions of: 1) mangos in the sun, 2)Lord of the Rings, and 3) "The spectacular, scandal-ridden, humiliation-laden, LONG OVERDUE downfall of the current US Regime, involving an accountant, a corset, and a very unfortunate sheep."

The song was a hoot, the audience loved it, and both the game and the whole night was a success.
